Dr Salvador Sarró Maluquer

Dr Sarró, MD, PhD, has a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Universitat de Barcelona and a PhD in Medicine from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and he is board certified in General Psychiatry.

With more than 30 years of experience, he has worked in different hospitalization units and has held various clinical management and leadership positions. He has also taught medical students and specialists MIR, PIR and EIR, and has served as professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the International University of Catalonia.

He is a member and reference researcher of the Spanish Society of Psychiatry and Mental Health (SEPSM) and has been a member of different boards of the Catalan Society of Psychiatry and Mental Health (SCPSM).

He has directed and collaborated in different research projects funded by public (FIS projects of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Cibersam and Agaur of the Generalitat de Catalunya,…) and private (Fundació Seny, Acadèmia de Ciències Mèdiques i la Salut de Catalunya i de Balears, Fundació la Marató de TV3,…). He is the author of more than 140 articles published in international peer-reviewed indexed journals and has participated as a speaker in national and international conferences.

His main areas of interest are psychotic disorders and schizophrenia. He has conducted studies with the latest neuroimaging and genetic techniques. He has also participated in numerous international clinical trials with new drugs especially in schizophrenia and depression. Together with the research group of FIDMAG Research Foundation and Sant Pau Hospital, he published for the first time the results of a clinical trial on the use of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) in schizophrenia, research that has recently (2022) received new funding from “La Marató de TV3” and the Instituto de Salud Carlos III.

Throughout all these years he has accumulated extensive experience in the differential diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders, seeking to optimize the effectiveness and resolution of patients’ symptoms to help them reach psychic and emotional well-being. With a broad knowledge of treatments, both psychotherapeutic and pharmacological, he has extensive experience in assessing the condition of each person and establishing their potential for improvement, indicating the strategies and drugs that will most effectively help them to recover more quickly.
