Dr. Salvador Sarró Maluquer

Dr. Sarró, Ph.D., MD, holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona and a Doctor of Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He specialized in Psychiatry through the MIR route.
With more than 30 years of clinical experience, he has worked in different hospital units and has held various management and leadership positions. He has developed extensive teaching activity with medical students and specialists in training (MIR, PIR and EIR), and has been a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the International University of Catalonia.
He is a researcher and co-principal researcher at CIBERSAM (Carlos III Health Institute) and a reference member of the Spanish Society of Psychiatry and Mental Health (SEPSM). He has also been part of several boards of directors of the Catalan Society of Psychiatry and Mental Health.
He has directed and collaborated in research projects funded by competitive calls, both public (FIS, CIBERSAM, AGAUR) and private (Fundació Seny, Acadèmia de Ciències Mèdiques, La Marató de TV3). He is the author of more than 160 articles published in indexed international journals and regularly participates as a speaker in national and international conferences.
His main area of interest is psychotic disorders and schizophrenia, areas that he studies using neuroimaging and genetic techniques. He has participated in numerous international clinical trials with new drugs for schizophrenia and depression. Together with FIDMAG Research Foundation and Hospital de Sant Pau, he published for the first time the results of a trial on the use of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) in schizophrenia, a line that in 2022 received new funding from La Marató de TV3.
Over the years, he has accumulated a deep knowledge of the differential diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders. He is proficient in psychotherapeutic and pharmacological approaches, and pays special attention to the individualized assessment of each person to establish their potential for improvement and design the most appropriate therapeutic strategy.
