Dr. Tolosa, MD, PhD, is an accredited neurologist of great international standing. After completing his training as a specialist in neurology in Barcelona, he moved to the United States, where he practiced for more than 10 years. He later returned to Barcelona, where he became head of the Neurology Service of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and the Chair of Neurology at the University of Barcelona.
With more than 40 years of experience, his main area of expertise is movement disorders, especially Parkinson’s disease, a disease in which he continues to be an international reference. He was a pioneer in the use of advanced therapies such as deep brain stimulation (DBS).
His research is currently focused on the search for biomarkers in the preclinical stages of Parkinson’s disease as a measure to monitor its progression.
His research projects have received continued funding from different national and international institutions. Author of more than 800 scientific articles, he has been recognized on different occasions as one of the most highly-cited researchers at international level.
