Dr. Diego J. Palao Vidal

Dr. Palao, MD, PhD, is a physician and board certified in General Psychiatry (MIR) at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. He has been developing an intense clinical, teaching and research activity. He has also held various management positions in integrated psychiatry services.

He is currently the Director of the Mental Health Service at the Corporació Sanitària Universitària Parc Taulí in Sabadell (Barcelona)—which manages the majority of public specialized mental health services in the Vallès Occidental region—as well as a Professor of Psychiatry at the Universiitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and a Principal Investigator at CIBERSAM.

He has led and collaborated on research projects across various fields that have been published and/or presented as doctoral theses. These lines of research are currently being pursued within the framework of the UAB’s Parc Taulí University Institute Foundation, which also houses the Mental Health Observatory of Catalonia.

He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Health and Addictions Master Plan of Catalonia and is the coordinator of Catalonia’s Suicide Prevention Plan (PLAPRESC 2021-2025). He is also an elected member of the Board of the European Psychiatric Association and has collaborated with the World Health Organization - European Mental Health Program.

He has been the president of the Societat Catalana de Psiquiatria i Salut Mental and vice-president of the Acadèmia de Ciències Mèdiques i de la Salut de Catalunya i de Balears.
