Dr. Salvador Sarró Maluquer (Collegiate member no. 27.765; COMB), MD, PhD, holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona and a doctorate in Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He obtained his specialty in Psychiatry through the MIR route.

With more than 30 years of experience, he has worked in different hospital units and has held various clinical management and management positions. He has taught medical students and specialists in training (MIR, PIR and EIR), and has been a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the International University of Catalonia.

He is a member and leading researcher of the Spanish Society of Psychiatry and Mental Health (SEPSM) and researcher and co-principal researcher at CIBERSAM (Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Ministry of Health). He has been part of several boards of directors of the Catalan Society of Psychiatry and Mental Health.

He has directed and collaborated in research projects funded by competitive calls, both public —FIS projects of the Carlos III Health Institute, CIBERSAM and AGAUR of the Generalitat de Catalunya— and private —Fundació Seny, Academy of Medical and Health Sciences of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, Fundació La Marató de TV3—. He is the author of more than 160 articles published in international peer-reviewed indexed journals and has participated as a speaker in national and international conferences.

His main area of ​​interest is psychotic disorders and schizophrenia, which he studies with neuroimaging and genetic techniques. He has participated in numerous international clinical trials with new drugs, especially in schizophrenia and depression. Together with the research group of FIDMAG Research Foundation and Hospital de Sant Pau, he published for the first time the results of a clinical trial on the use of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) in schizophrenia, a line of work that in 2022 received new funding from La Marató de TV3 and the Instituto de Salud Carlos III.

Over the years, he has accumulated extensive experience in the differential diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders. He has in-depth knowledge of psychotherapeutic and pharmacological approaches, and pays special attention to the individual assessment of each person to establish their potential for improvement and guide the most appropriate therapeutic strategy for their case.
